Άνθιση: Σεπτέμβριο-Νοέμβριο.

Βολβός έως 5 Χ 4 εκ., ωοειδής.

Χιτώνες δερματώδεις έως υποδερματώδεις, κιτρινωποί κόκκινοι-καφέ έως κόκκινοι-καφέ, με μακρύ λαιμό.

Φύλλα (5-) 6-7 (-12), όλα ισομήκη (δεν διαφοροποιούνται ανάλογα με την ηλικία τους), μάλλον αποκλίνοντα, ελαφρά συνεστραμμένα, απότομα στενούμενα στην άκρη, κορυφή αμβλεία, έως 25 Χ 1.3 εκ.

Άνθη καμπανουλοειδή, με έντονη μωσαίκωση, τέπαλα πλατειά, με ευκρινή λευκή μεσαία λωρίδα, με 17-45 νεύρες και έντονες, οριζόντιες αναστομώσεις. Ανθήρες μεγάλοι, σκουρόχρωμοι. Στύλοι ευθείς, διογκωμένοι, στίγμα ελαφρά αγκιστροειδές.

Κάψα περίπου 4 εκ., επιμήκεις.

Χρωμοσωματικός αριθμός: 2n=48

Εξάπλωση: Ν και Δ Βαλκάνια (ηπειρωτική Ελλάδα, Ιόνια Νησιά και Λέσβο, N. Aλβανία, FYROM, Βουλγαρία, Κροατία), ΒΔ Τουρκία, Ν Ιταλία, Σικελία και Σαρδηνία.

Flowering: September-November.

Corm up to 5 X 4 cm, ovoid.

Tunics coriaceous to subcoriaceous, yellowish red-brown to mid reddish-brown, with a long neck.

Leaves (5-) 6- 7 (-12), all leaves of the same length (not differing with age), mostly patent, slightly twisted, short-attenuate into at obtuse apex, up to 25 X 1.3 cm.

Flowers campanulate, very distinctly and coarsely chequered, tepals wide, with a distinct white mid-streak, 17-45 veins, with distinct, horizontal anastomoses. Anthers long, greyish or purplish. Styles straight, swollen, slightly hooked on one side.

Capules c. 4 cm, oblong.

Chromosome number: 2n=48

Distribution: W & S Balkans (mainland Greece, Ionian Islands and Lesbos Island, S. Albania, FYROM, Croatia, Bulgaria), NW Turkey, S. Italy, Sicily, Sardinia.
